My eMail Woes

So, it turns out that IMAPping with a 310mb mailbox is a new world of pure pain. Basically, Mail.app just crapped out on me entirely. Extreme Measures had to be taken, and, at boolean’s suggestion, I just yanked the whole damned thing off the server (with shaver’s help) and started fresh.

Of course because there’s mail in that giant blob that I sort of need (or, at very least, want), I imported it into Mail.app locally. Ho ho. Several hours later I return and discover that there were some 32000+ messages in that mailbox. I also discovered that Mail.app chokes to death on it.

Next trick, deleting 22000 email messages without crashing Finder. Ho ho. This is a slightly time consuming process because you also have to empty the Trash after each blob or it will crash Finder.

So, now I have a mailbox of imported mail that thinks it contains 32000 messages that only contains 10000 messages. This is about as useful as you might expect.

Long story short: I have all my mail, I’m just having problems actually doing anything with it. I’m sure I’ll come up with something eventually.

The result? A lesson learned. I have to be much, much, much more disciplined with organizing my mail. Bleah.
