Sleepiness and Sunny Days

I’ve been in California since late Monday evening. I did manage to avoid the worst of the jetlag simply by staying up ’til I was utterly exhausted on Monday (finally crashed at around 3:30am EST, 12:30am PST). This is good. I am, however, tired right now, and my back is killing me.
I’ve learned another strange and unexpected thing about (this part of) California: for some damned reason, it’s impossible to get a decent meal at a restaurant after 10pm. I had this strange impression, what with the 24hr Fry’s and such, that this was a 24/7 sort of state. Not so. After a long trip involving no food (airlines don’t seem to do the food thing any more), I ended up (after being driven around by my very patient friends for about an hour) settling for a reheated pepperoni slice and a Sprite. On the other hand, if you do manage to get your feedbag on before 10pm, you’re in luck. There seems to be no shortage of good restaurants around here.
I think Deadwood is about to start on the teevee here. I’ve only seen a couple of episodes so far, and, honestly, haven’t been terribly impressed. See, I want my Western-themed show to be Firefly, with spaceships and cute space cowboys and a really, really funny cast. Deadwood is short on all three. And as far as I can tell, they managed to kill the only interesting character in the show during the first episode I watched. Maybe it’ll grow on me, although the past three episodes I’ve watched have been primarily about some guy in his longjohns with a kidney stone. I just don’t find that to be particularly entertaining television.
Not to mention the language. I mean, I’m known to curse the occassional blue streak, but these people are ridiculous. I’ve counted four utterances of the F-word, oop five, in the past 2 mins. Six. I mean, come on. Ok, up to 10. It’s like watching that episode of South Park where they said “shit” 130+ times in 22 mins, only without the humour.
All that TV stuff aside, the weather here has been unbelievably awesome since I’ve been here. Cool nights and nice sunny days. Perfect walking weather, although no one seems to do that around here :)
